"Huge and lethal: get out now"
Queenslanders are crowded into supermarkets, buying up tinned food, batteries, torches and bottled water. Roads are now packed by cars moving slowly south, moving into the towns and cities that were flooded just weeks ago and now seem like a safe haven.
The wind forecast has the cyclone big enough to cover almost the entire state. Here, though, the hot wind is whipping leaves and dry branches all over the yard and the road. The washing is dry almost as soon as I hang it up. There's nothing tropical about it.
